Daniel Schmid offers an evocative journey into the traditions of Japanese Kabuki, centered on the acclaimed actor Tamasaburo Bando. Combining stylized stage performances with glimpses of the lives of geishas and other artists, the film examines the construction of identity, the beauty of theatrical illusion, and the intricate interplay between private self and performed persona.
